Chemicals Found In Tap Water And How They Can Damage Your Health

When was the last time you had a glass of water and could smell the chlorine in it? It happens quite a lot is my guess, but did you realize the amount of chemicals found in tap water is now at dangerous levels?
Treatment plants have always filtered tap water using outdated techniques and disinfecting with chlorine, itself a major cancer causing toxin.
According to a recent study we have over 2100 toxic chemicals coming out of our taps, including lead, chlorine, volatile organic chemicals, cysts and the modern phenomenon of pharmaceuticals.
The chemicals found in tap water relating to drugs are truly worrying and includes antibiotics, growth hormones, mood stabilizers, birth control and many more.
No one yet knows the damaging long term effects of this but according to experts at the University of Illinois, they are responsible for tens of thousands of deaths each year in the US. Home filtered tap water seems to be our only defense.
So why is this happening? Well the treatment plants just cannot cope and disinfecting with chlorine is a cheap option even though it is not effective against lead and the prescription drugs.
The problem is getting worse as more and more chemicals are used in industry and agriculture, and the amount of prescriptions rises year on year. We live in a culture of mass consumption and this is one of the prices we pay.
The chemicals found in tap water have been linked to cancer, leukemia in children and even learning disorders. The U.S. Council on Environmental Quality believes that the majority of cancers in the US are linked to the toxins in our drinking water.
We would need a major over haul of our treatment plants to even begin to get rid of these deadly contaminants and as only a small percentage is used for drinking, it is simply not cost effective in their eyes. If they filtered tap water properly our bills would be astronomical!
We must step up and protect ourselves with a home filtration system, as millions of people have found, as this is the only way forward to get rid of the chemicals found in tap water.
Look for a system that uses a multi-stage carbon block filter with ion exchange to effectively remove 99% of the contaminants, including the pharmaceuticals. This is the only type of filtered tap water product the US EPA recommends.
